About the Role
Merck's Device Development & Technology (DD&T) team is seeking a hands-on Scientist with strong analytical engineering and mechanical testing expertise. The ideal candidate will support testing and characterization of drug delivery devices and combination products (e.g., injectors, inhalers) using advanced instrumentation and method development techniques.

Required Qualifications

B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field


1-3 years of relevant experience (for B.S.) or entry-level for M.S./Ph.D.


Strong mechanical testing and method development skills


Hands-on with tension/compression testing, rheometry, microscopy


Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks), geometric tolerancing, and stack-up analysis


Excellent documentation and collaboration skills



Preferred Experience

Experience with: Instron, XRCT, drop shape analyzers, Keyence/Cognex vision systems


Familiarity with medical device standards (ISO 13485, 14971, EN 60601, etc.)


Background in medical device development and design controls (21 CFR 820.30)



Responsibilities

Develop and validate mechanical test methods


Conduct hands-on testing of components and full drug-device systems


Analyze data and identify risks/opportunities for improvement in device design


Collaborate across R&D teams and support regulatory documentation


Create functional testing fixtures and drive ideation/prototyping efforts

Strong hands-on lab testing experience.
