Job Description The Underwriting Associate/Assistant will be responsible for providing support to an Underwriter by preparing information for a variety of reports and documents, processing inquiries and forms and communicating with outside sources. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP : Sr. Underwriting Manager ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Review applications, renewals, and change requests, gathering all required information to make decisions regarding risk acceptability and pricing. Communicate with agents to obtain additional information as needed, or to confirm risk acceptance, declination or modifications. Underwrite and process smaller new business, renewals and endorsements within prescribed limits of authority. Apply knowledge of coverage forms, rating plans and guidelines in selection and pricing of individual risks and change requests Ensure adequate pricing through accuracy of information, proper classification and adherence to company underwriting standards and philosophies Compute rates on applications, renewals and change requests, and process the associated policies and endorsements. Support underwriting decisions through file preparation and documentation; ordering and following up on loss control inspections; and preparing referrals to Underwriter or Management when necessary. Provide superior customer service to an assigned group of agent partners. Act as a resource for team assistants to develop and strengthen their Underwriting and processing skills. Handle special projects and assignments as direct Experience / Qualifications: License/Certification/Designation: CPCU certification or other certifications desired. Education: Undergraduate degree in business administration, insurance, risk management, economics or finance required. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills The ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast paced environment Excellent attention to detail The ability to work independently and proactively in an orderly and timely manner Attention to detail and analytical with effective problem solving skills The capacity to develop positive working relationships with both team members and agent partners by working to find mutually beneficial solutions and options Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is preferred Prior Property and Casualty Insurance Underwriting experience is preferred.
