Job Description Job Description Key Responsibilities Initiate work on new 9/11 compensation claims for personal injury and wrongful death. Gather, review, and analyze medical, employment, probate, and other supporting records relevant to VCF claims. Investigate liability, exposure, and causation, and develop case theories supported by the record. Work directly with clients and their families, as well as witnesses and third-party entities, to obtain information and documentation. Prepare documents and correspondence to enroll clients in the World Trade Center Health Program and submit complete and persuasive claims to the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. Draft detailed legal and factual memoranda in support of claims, amendments, and appeals. Appear before the VCF for appeal hearings, both in-person and virtually, including preparing clients and witnesses for testimony and presenting arguments and responding to the Special Masters’ questions. Manage and mentor paralegal claim managers in strategy, analysis, and document collection for VCF claims. Diligently document all case activity in the firm’s case management system and adhere to internal workflows and deadlines. Required Must reside in New York or New Jersey. Admission to practice law in the State of New York, in good standing. Minimum 5 years of experience in personal injury or medical malpractice litigation, workers’ compensation claims, or September 11th Victim Compensation Fund work. Demonstrated empathy and professionalism in working with vulnerable and grieving clients. Proven ability to work independently as a resourceful self-starter, manage a significant caseload, multitask, and prioritize. Meticulous attention to detail in written work product and record review. Strong organizational, analytical, written, and oral communication skills. Comfortable using a case management system and maintaining thorough electronic records. Preferred Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) or Spanish, written and verbal. Prior experience with VCF claims or other statutory compensation programs. Location & Work Environment Primarily remote role, with in-person work as needed Headquarters located in an amenity-rich modern office in the heart of the Financial District.
