Do you have demonstrated information fusion experience and want to
apply that experience to solving a wide variety of complex problems

and fielding of information fusion algorithms for non-kinetic
defense systems? If so, we are looking for someone like you to join
our team at APL!We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Data
Fusion Algorithm Developer who will contribute to all phases of the
information fusion algorithm development process. You will be
joining a team of engineers and scientists who are at the forefront
of APL's mission to provide innovative solutions to critical
challenges. You will provide accurate, timely, and actionable
information derived from a variety of sources to warfighter
advantages over its adversaries. Our group at APL identifies,
develops, and applies efficient and effective algorithms that
leverage successes from estimation theory, information theory, and
data science. We produce critical multi-source data/information
fusion and resource management algorithms for a variety of DoD
missions.As a Senior Data Fusion Algorithm Developer, you
will....
Investigate, develop, prototype, and
communicate solutionsthat improvewarfightercapabilitiesDesignand
exerciserigorous testing and validation methodologiesto determine
if/whenalgorithmsfulfillwarfighter needs/requirementsInteract
withlarge data sets ofvarious types, formats,and structures in a
clear and appropriate manner to enable robust pre-processing,
normalization,or other manipulations as neededPrepare and present
technical evaluations of algorithms to a broad audience that
includes both decision makers as well as technical peersCreate,
develop,and debug codeto include the following:generatemeaningful
dataplots; implement and/or exercise algorithms, and contribute to
various multi-user software test bedsInteract with external
sponsors to discuss technical solutions and influence
decision-makersDevelop, lead, and direct tasking for a small
technical teamServe as an internally recognized subject matter
expert in one or more technical areas related to information
fusionMentor early career staff to help them develop technical
skills applicable to information fusion
Qualifications
Required qualifications
- BS degree with 5+ years of
professional experience or MS degree with 2+ years of professional
experience in one of the following fields: engineering,
mathematics, computer science, or related field2+ years experience
applying one or more of the following disciplines:statistics,
probability,estimation theory,information theory, anddata scienceor
related subjects
- Minimum of some coursework in linear algebra, calculus, and one
or more programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C, C++)
- Demonstrated application of tracking or data fusion algorithms
(e.g., KF, MHT, IMM, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to perform analyses using large data sets
and complex code bases
Experience looking critically at
pre-processed data, algorithm output, and analysis results to
identify potential issues and key observationsExcellentwritten and
verbal communication skills, to include presentations of high-level
findings from analyses or other projects for both technical and
non-technical audiencesExcellent time management skills and ability
to balance near-term requests with long term goalsAbility to
workcollaboratively andeffectively with a team
- Ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance by your start
date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level security clearance.
If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance
investigation and must meet the requirements for access to
classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S.
citizenship.Desired qualifications
5+ years of experience with DoD
tracking systems and familiarity with one or more sensor systems or
modalities (e.g., RF, EO/IR)2+ years of experience applying one or
more of the following: stochastic processes, detection and
estimation theory, information theory, Bayesian inference of time
varying systems, tracking and data fusion algorithms (e.g., KF,
MHT, IMM, etc.)Familiarity with one or more of the following:matrix
calculus, object-oriented programming languages, data structures
used in programming languagesDemonstrated effective ability to
contribute to and maintain team code base using version control,
such as GitWillingness to travel up to 10% of the time, as
neededHold or obtain an active Top Secret clearance or TS/SCI-level
