Job Description Job Description Physician Practice Enhancement is seeking a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist for a Nocturnist position at New Brunswick, NJ Full-Time/Part-Time or Per diem All Shifts available 10hr/12hr/16hr or 24 hr weekend coverage Call From Home : Monday to Friday 7p-7a $600.00 with 2 hr minimum when called in at $400.00 hour. Weekends 5p-7a $750.00 with 2hr minimum at $400.00 if called in. Typical cases from Main OR, Endo and OB Mon-Fri Nights $400 per hour 24 weekend $425 per hour CRNA support staff About the Role: The Anesthesiologist - Nocturnist plays a critical role in providing expert anesthesia care during nighttime hours, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout surgical and diagnostic procedures. This position requires the ability to independently manage anesthesia cases, respond promptly to emergencies, and collaborate effectively with surgical teams and other healthcare professionals. The nocturnist anesthesiologist is responsible for overseeing anesthesia delivery, monitoring patient vital signs, and adjusting anesthetic plans as needed to accommodate changing clinical conditions. This role demands vigilance, quick decision-making, and comprehensive knowledge of anesthetic techniques and pharmacology to optimize patient outcomes during overnight shifts. Ultimately, the nocturnist anesthesiologist contributes to the hospital’s continuous, high-quality perioperative care by maintaining readiness and providing expert anesthesia services throughout the night. Minimum Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution. Completion of an accredited anesthesiology residency program. Board certification or eligibility in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or equivalent. Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice anesthesiology in the United States. Demonstrated experience in providing anesthesia care independently, preferably including overnight or nocturnal coverage. Preferred Qualifications: Fellowship training in subspecialties such as critical care medicine or pain management. Prior experience working as a nocturnist or in a similar overnight anesthesia role. Advanced certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and anesthesia information management systems (AIMS). Strong background in perioperative medicine and multidisciplinary team collaboration. Responsibilities: Administer anesthesia to patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures during overnight shifts. Monitor patients’ vital signs and physiological status continuously to ensure safety and adjust anesthesia as necessary. Respond promptly to anesthesia-related emergencies and provide critical care interventions when required. Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized anesthesia care plans. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of anesthesia care, patient responses, and any intraoperative events. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements related to anesthesia practice. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with advancements in anesthesiology. Skills: The required skills enable the anesthesiologist to deliver safe and effective anesthesia care by applying deep clinical knowledge and technical proficiency in anesthetic techniques. Strong critical thinking and rapid decision-making skills are essential for managing complex cases and responding to emergencies during overnight shifts. Effective communication and teamwork skills facilitate collaboration with surgical teams and nursing staff to ensure seamless patient care. Familiarity with EMR and anesthesia management systems supports accurate documentation and enhances workflow efficiency. Preferred skills such as subspecialty expertise and advanced certifications further enhance the anesthesiologist’s ability to manage diverse patient populations and complex clinical scenarios with confidence and precision.
