CBSPDT Certifications: N/A Must-Have: High school diploma or
equivalent Description: The Central Supply Technician is
responsible for the cleaning, processing, and sterilization of
surgical instrumentation, patient care equipment, and reusable
medical/surgical items. This position also functions as a Case Cart
Attendant for the Operating Room. Receives, sorts, processes,
assembles, or sterilizes both patient care equipment and surgical
instruments according to established departmental policies.
Understands all detergents and disinfectants used to process items.
Implements Universal Precautions and proper use of personal
protective equipment. Operates and loads sterilizers (Steam, ETO,
Sterrad, and Steris) and assures biological tests and Bowie Dick
tests are correctly performed, incubated, read, and recorded.
Ensures sterilization records are completed accurately by recording
all items processed, using the correct labeling system, and
interpreting chemical integrators per load. Adheres to the correct
use of computerized instrument count sheets. Prepares case carts
for delivery by using physician preference information to assemble
required instruments, drugs, and special equipment. Notifies the
nursing team of missing items and confers with the coordinator
about shortages of supplies and equipment while completing a daily
checklist. Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum
of 60 lbs., and stands for the duration of the shift. Adheres to
the standards identified in the organization's competencies. Must
work every other weekend and three out of six holidays. Must work
rotating schedule/shifts based on needs.
