JOB DESCRIPTION: The position reports to the Director of the Emerging Technologies Laboratory (ETL), which is one of the four primary laboratories that comprise ATL. ETL applies agile methods to explore and evaluate new technology focus areas for impact to ATL-s customers, as well as to continue to grow the business of our larger established focus areas. ETL also explores new models for enhancing innovation. The candidate will help lead ETL-s efforts to explore and grow new focus areas in their earlier stages (Mini Focus Areas, or MFA-s), which collectively are grouped within ETL-s -Innovation Cluster-. The candidate will help lead the Innovation Cluster by aiding in strategy formulation and evaluation, and providing staff management. In addition the candidate will be responsible for program management overview of the R&D efforts conducted within the associated MFA-s. - Work within a distributed team of scientists and engineers at ATL, other Lockheed Martin facilities, outside companies, and universities to provide program management oversight in a diverse array of technology fields that presently include next-gen manufacturing, trusted autonomy, intelligence community systems, bioanalytical systems, environmentally-adaptive autonomy, and manned-unmanned teaming. - Interact on both a technical and business basis with outside customers including DARPA, IARPA, ONR, AFRL, ARL, and commercial companies, as well as internal customers and partners including Lockheed Martin business units and the Advanced Technology Labs proper. - Responsible for Innovation Cluster staffing, planning, people management and professional development. - Responsible for program management oversight of the active R&D programs within the Innovation Cluster. - Responsible for program management oversight of the active proposal generation efforts within the Innovation Cluster. - Applicants are expected to apply proven methods in program management to provide scheduling, financial and performance tracking, resource planning, and reporting. - Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation. Basic Qualifications: - Advanced degree in Science, Math, or Engineering. - At least 5 years Research and Development (R&D) or advanced technology project management experience. - Experience in the planning, implementation, and tracking of R&D projects. - Previous leadership roles as program manager, principle investigator and people leader. - Proven ability to organize and manage multiple projects. - Ability to team with university and or government lab researchers, and collaborate with small and medium enterprise companies. - Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security clearance that requires U.S. citizenship. Desired Skills: - A technology generalist who can easily move between and across disciplines. - Entrepreneurial experience. - Exceptional verbal and written skills and ability to present complex technical issues to LM management. - 4 or more years of industry and/or government experience. - Experience in defining R&D program objectives, preparing and presenting research plans and results to management and customers, and developing research proposals. - Experience in transitioning technology from a research environment to end users. - Willingness to travel.
