Overview











The Nursing Director for Children's -Services will be responsible for the 24-hours supervision of the program that includes an inpatient campus - residential program that -specializes in working with children with acute behavioral challenges who -have intellectual or developmental disabilities and Autism. This candidate will also have oversight - of a pediatric community residential program in group home setting along with oversight of the Bancroft School. -The Nursing Director will be a member of a very collaborative multidisciplinary team of clinicians. - -The DON candidate -should have management -or DON experience in behavioral health or with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.















Responsibilities











How You Can Make a Real Impact: - -

  • Directs and provides oversight to direct reports within - the Community Residential Adult Community, Lakeside and Pediatric Community - programs. : -
    • Provides direction and supervision to all Children's Services Community nursing staff. - Manages the ongoing job performance of direct reports; develops and communicates performance goals, completes performance evaluations within established timeframes; provides feedback, develops and takes action on performance improvement plans, and determines and implements disciplinary action as needed in the area of nursing function; -
      • Provides ongoing - leadership, advice, training, and guidance to direct reports regarding the overall nursing care, instruction, and safety of persons served within - Adult Community and Pediatric Community in New Jersey , and as outlined in the Individual Program Plan (IPP) for each person served; -
        • Ensures proper staffing levels and work distribution for Children's Services programs, to ensure the provision of high quality care for all persons served; -
          • Conducts regular staff meetings and attends various management meetings to promote a constant flow of information, open discussions, knowledge sharing, and to keep staff well-informed; -
            • Attends various internal management meetings, external conferences, Interdisciplinary (IDT) and/or Trans-Disciplinary (TDT) meetings, and family conferences as needed. -
              • Appropriately delegates work responsibilities; -
                • Supports the professional development and career growth of direct reports by identifying and providing ongoing training and certification attainment in accordance with state licensing regulations and any accreditation standards, as applicable within area of responsibility. -
                  • Oversees operations of the professional nursing staff in accordance with regulations and guidelines defined by the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), N.J. Department of Health, N.J. Department of Education Administrative Code and Amendments, The Division of Youth Services (DYFS), Individual Program Plan (IPP), Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA), and established Bancroft policies and procedures; -
                    • Develops and implements departmental goals, objectives, standards of performance, and outcome measurements for nursing practice in collaboration with the Senior Director of Nursing / Chief Clinical Officer. -
                      • Oversees the continued provision of nursing care and services to each person served in order to provide the highest professional standards that best meet the current and changing healthcare needs of each individual;
                        • Monitors all direct costs incurred and efficiency of spending for nursing in Children's Services in New Jersey nursing. - Ensures nursing operates within the established fiscal budget. - Meets regularly with Nurse Manager(s) to review areas related to budget (i.e.: staffing; call-outs; purchases, etc.); meets monthly with Senior Director of Nursing to review budget. - -
                          • Revises Medical Policy & Procedures within the areas of responsibility conferring with Senior Director of Nursing and Chief Clinical Officer, as necessary. -
                            • Facilitates a team approach to the continued provision of quality care to persons served through interaction, communication, and collaboration and oversight of the licensed nursing staff. - Conduit leader and liaison with discipline-specific clinical directors, managers and staff, Chief Clinical Officer, school staff members, external case workers, state and federal regulatory agencies, family members etc., to attain and maintain the provision of quality care for persons served and assist in the removal or modification of reported health-related barriers; - -
                              • Identifies and assesses the routine, special, and changing healthcare needs and regulations of persons served and works jointly with the healthcare and program team to implement a comprehensive plan and service delivery system that is responsive to the needs of persons served, emphasizes the value of integrated disciplines and services by linking individuals with appropriate services and reduces gaps in or overlap of services; -
                                • Manages and maintains the licensed nursing staff in compliance with regulatory bodies. - Leads department in oversight and management of changing regulations and provides leadership empowering staff to exceed set regulations. Works closely with - Senior Director of Nursing and shares responsibility for policy development review, revision and implementation; - -
                                  • Dependent upon program needs, may attend or provide input to the Interdisciplinary Team process and/or other team/departmental meetings, etc., to present significant findings of persons' served health history, or safety, etc. When requested, provides information pertinent to the case of each person served and participates in discussions regarding the needs of nursing department and progress of individuals and the maintenance or modification of services; -
                                    • Admissions liaison: acts - as a resource in the process of screening - potential admission of new individuals and the transition of existing persons served across programs by reviewing, streamlining and enforcing regulations, assisting in the coordination of necessary services, etc., to contribute to a smooth and efficient process; . May assist in the medical screening of potential admissions - - - - - - - -
                                      • May perform on-site visits of program sites to assure and promote the health, safety, security, and overall quality of care for persons served and staff. - Identifies existing and potential issues of concern and takes appropriate action to address with program and/or nursing staff; -
                                        • Works collaboratively with Nurse Managers and Supervisors, nursing staff, in order to ensure that necessary in-service trainings are developed and presented to program management/staff, and/or nursing staff as needed and upon request on various topics as it relates to current or changing health care needs of person served; Provide consultation to nursing staff as needed to promote safe and regulatory compliant department. -
                                          • Pharmacy liaison as it relates to the operation of safe delivery of medication for persons served and ensuring a safe, compliant and efficient system for use within the health department by the licensed nursing staff. Will schedule & coordinate quarterly P & T meetings with Pharmacy provider, & appropriate Bancroft personnel. - -
                                            • Participate in infection Safety education for both staff & the individuals we serve. - Educates professional nursing staff potential risk and hazards to person served and staff safety provides instruction on the implementation of appropriate precautions, as needed; Participates on Safety committee. -
                                              • Ensures that licensed nursing staff utilizes a system of documentation that is professional, efficient, accountable, and conforms to federal and state regulations and established Bancroft policies and procedures. - Develops progress reports, incident reports, and participates in root cause analysis as indicated -
                                                • Participates in on call responsibilities in Children's Healthcare Services operations. -
                                                  • Reports suspected abuse to the appropriate authority in accordance with policies and procedures
                                                  • Maintains ongoing awareness of current and changing nursing statutes and regulations and maintains individual requirements for continuing education. - Enhances professional growth and incorporate findings into practice with the objective of strengthening and facilitating the provision of quality health care for all persons served.
                                                  • Actively participates in the development and implementation of performance improvement systems.
                                                  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with licensed nursing staff, program directors, managers and staff.
                                                  • Assists Licensed nursing staff in maintaining crisis management, as needed, through de-escalation techniques, staff support, and assistance. Follows state-approved emergency procedures and utilizes Bancroft-approved crisis intervention techniques at all times.
                                                  • Works with the nursing and program management/staff to support operation of the program site in accordance with the organization's quality standards for safety, security, and cleanliness, as well as applicable state licensing and accreditation standards.
                                                  • Cooperates in any inspections or investigations to include both internal and external investigations and/or inspection processes.
                                                  • Projects a positive self-image of professionalism, appearance, confidentiality, courtesy, conduct, honesty, fairness, personal integrity, and a respect for the fundamental rights, dignity, and privacy of others.
                                                  • Provides guidance in oversight of Adult Community and Pediatric Community in New Jersey nursing schedule. -
                                                  • Abides by the Bancroft Code of Ethics, Mission Statement, and Vision Statement in promoting ethical behavior, establishing relationships and providing guidance in decision-making situations.
                                                  • Remains current with required training certifications, meets state-regulated licensing and regulatory accreditations, and adheres to mandatory requirements.
                                                  • Maintains effective verbal and written communications with colleagues, those served, and their family members and/or guardians when applicable.
                                                  • Cooperates with Bancroft, The Department of Human Services, The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DOD), - N.J. Department of Health, N.J. Department of Education Administrative Code and Amendments, The Division of Youth Services (DYFS) where applicable, and other licensing or state agency or local municipalities in any inspections and investigations, -
                                                  • Reports any violations to the appropriate individual as soon as the incident occurs.

                                                    Qualifications











                                                    Education & Experience:Registered Nurse required with a current and valid N.J. license. - Degree in Nursing and/or certification as a Developmental Disabilities Nurse preferred. - Minimum of one year of general nursing experience required, with three years of prior experience preferred. - Prior nursing/5+ years of case management, with experience working with the developmentally disabled and/or the traumatically brain injured preferred.Special Skills:When applicable, and In compliance with The Joint Commission guidelines, demonstrated individual-specific competencies to work with a neurologically-challenged population and to provide individual-specific services and resources to persons served, their families, and staff is required.Knowledge of case management services and medical assessment procedures required, as well as knowledge of nursing/clinical operations and procedures and primary care principles and practices. - Ability to work independently and to observe, assess, and record individual medical symptoms, reactions, and progress required. - Knowledge of emergency medical procedures, of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration required. - Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact regularly with various internal and external agencies, healthcare providers, specialists, consultants, direct care staff, etc., as well as effective organization and time management skills required. - Working knowledge of computer and related computer software preferred. - -Valid driver's license required in incumbent's legal name and current address with no provisional restrictions.
