Job Description:

Technically astute, the Solutions Engineer is responsible for technical and application engineering support of managed accounts, including OEM and HVC customers. - Most often, the Solutions Engineer acts as the technical liaison between the customer, Edmund Optics sales, and manufacturing (or third party suppliers). - Solutions Engineers focus on building and strengthening our customer relationships from a technical perspective.Additionally, the Solutions Engineer is responsible for reviewing incoming requests for quote (RFQs), ensuring the technical feasibility of such requests, and working to establish market-competitive pricing and closing the sale. - Solutions Engineers are an essential part of the Inside Sales Teams, with a shared responsibility for overall revenue growth for the Team.

Establish and grow engineer-to-engineer relationships at key managed customer accounts. Answer customer technical questions toward development of sales opportunities. - Exercise sales process. Work toward continuous improvement of sales processFacilitate the custom quotation process for opportunities from both managed and unmanaged accounts, including technical review for completeness and feasibility of incoming requestsRecognize and develop significant sales opportunities and communicate with Sales Teams (inside and outside)Generate formal price quotations prior to delivery to customer/prospect. Ensure our quoted pricing meets published pricing guidelines. - Maximize selling price and corporate gross margin. - Work within North America Sales Team to generate market-competitive pricing for each individual opportunityAssist in the application of volume-based discounting on standard (catalog) products, following established discount schedules and/or margin guidelines. Assist in developing, updating, and improving margin guidelines and discount schedulesWork closely with Edmund Optics global manufacturing sites to stay current with manufacturing and test capabilities, available capacity by productDevelop customer contacts and identifies significant sales opportunities through attending industry tradeshows (2-3 times per year) and visiting customers as needed. Interface with Marketing and Engineering/R&D to provide customer feedbackComply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulationsTo perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Proficient with Microsoft Office SuiteExperience with optical and mechanical design software a plusBasic optics knowledge/optics industry experience preferredUS citizenship or permanent residency (green card) requiredKnowledgeable about sales processes and account developmentExcellent telephone, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsStrong organization skills - able to manage multiple projects simultaneously -Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, optics, physics, or hard science; optics industry and/or manufacturing knowledge highly desirable; minimum of two (2) to five (5) years experience in technical and/or business-to-business sales environment. -Physical Requirements:Ability operate office equipment such as a copier; ability to sit at desk or PC for long periods of time; work in office setting. -All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
