One Full-Time positionThe CFO is assigned financial responsibility
for the organization. The CFO administers, directs and monitors all
organizational financial activities and keeps the hospital CEO and
hospital Board of Trustees informed of the financial condition of
the facility.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Strategic Leadership: works with the hospital CEO, hospital
board and employees to develop financial goals and objectives for
the hospital. Proactively provides sound guidance regarding
management of assets, investments and financial trends within the
facility. Works with department managers and patient care
executives to implement financial plans and productivity
benchmarks, and to monitor progress toward financial goals. Evokes
respect from the hospital board, peers, medical staff, employees
and the community. Is fair and impartial, sets high standards,
establishes a clear focus and direction, implements company
policies and tackles tough issues. Think strategically, possesses
vision, has the ability to adjust to change, to build advantageous
coalitions and to foster team spirit in the facility.
- Financial Responsibility: Displays leadership in financial
management from conceptual strategies through recommending policy,
executing fiscal procedures for control and effective utilization
of physical and financial resources of the hospital. Employs a
system of responsible accounting, including budget and internal
controls. Maintains a thorough working knowledge of federal, state
and managed care reimbursement payment methodologies, including:
contractual accounting, payment calculations, billing requirements
and compliance issues. Keeps up to date with all federal statutes
surrounding participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs,
including, but not limited to: EMTALA, Medicare fraud and abuse
issues, Stark legislation, and IRS guidelines pertaining to the
operation of not for profit entities. Understands and demonstrates
the ability to calculate key financial indicators dealing with
profitability, liquidity, debt and operational efficiency. Specific
areas of responsibility include: patient financial services;
maximizing cash flow consistent with sound credit and collection
policies while maintaining good rapport with the community;
financial reporting with detailed analysis of financial statements
and variances from budget; audits of financial statements and
internal controls; examination of insurance policies to ascertain
the hospital assets are properly insured against loss and that the
hospital's liability coverage meets the governing board
requirements; monitors capital assets expenditures and
depreciation; prepares annual operating budgets with input and
involvement at the departmental level, as well as capital budgets
and cash flow projections; arranges lines of credit and maintains
proper banking relations; and adheres to hospital compliance
standards and procedures.
- People management: Typically supervises the area of Accounting,
Admitting/Registration, Patient Financial Services, Credit and
Collection, Purchasing, Health Information Management, Payroll and
Cashier. May oversee other departments, as requested by the CEO. In
this role, defines roles and responsibilities, motivates and
challenges employees. Applies clear, consistent performance
standards, handles performance problems decisively and objectively,
is direct but tactful and provides guidance and assistance to
improve performance. Establishes a formal means of accountability
for assigned duties. Promotes a work environment that reflects a
positive atmosphere, high employee satisfaction, competence and
strong evidence of teamwork. As a member of the administrative
leadership team, actively promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to
all aspects of healthcare delivery.
- Board Relations: In conjunction with the hospital CEO prepare
financial reports for and attends meetings with the hospital
governing body, realizing that the focal point of policy making is
the hospital Board of Trustees. Seeks to educate the board on
financial matters.
- Physician Relations: Works to develop an effective working
relationship with the medical staff to maintain communication and
positive relationships. Actively participates in physician
recruitment and retention.
- Communication: establishes and communicates clear expectations,
models, open, clear, consistent communication, and demonstrates
effective listening. Keeps the CEO informed of all key financial
developments.
- Customer Service: Understands and values the impact customer
service has on positive and productive performance for the
hospital. Understand the hospital, Board of Trustees, medical
staff, employees and the community at large are our customers and
they must be satisfied with our performance.
- Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of
knowledge and skill.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures, including
the corporate compliance program.
- Other Duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college or
university.
- 10 years of health care management experience.
- Strong working knowledge and skills in health care accounting
functions and processes.
- Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software productsSKILLS AND
ABILITIES REQUIRED:

- Operation of typical office equipment such as P.C's, printers,
terminals, calculator, FAX, copiers.

- Specific vision abilities required by this position include

bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
- Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.
- The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body
fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock,
exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives,
exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
